Calf Parchment, otherwise known as Vellum, was historically, the preferred choice for calligraphers and scribes throughout central and northern Europe. The most sought-after trait – the minute grain character – is largely due to the small and tightly spaced hair follicles making the skin a good medium for writing and detailed work, without needing to worry about much visual interference from the parchment surface itself.
