Calf Parchment, otherwise known as vellum, was historically, the preferred choice for calligraphers and scribes throughout central and northern Europe. The most sought-after trait – the minute grain – is largely due to the small and tightly spaced hair follicles making the skin a good medium for detailed work, without needing to worry about much visual interference from the parchment surface itself.

Calf vellum features a smooth, buttery surface that lends it to beautiful whites, creams, and marbled or spotted natural tones. The calligraphy preparation (single side) creates a smooth, slightly nappy surface that is perfect for writing, drawing, and painting with non-water-based media. Pre-cut sizes can have the typical color range for calf, including off-white, cream, natural, and mottled. If you prefer one color range over another, please indicate in the additional notes and we will try to accommodate any requests.
